~My Review~

I love Barbara Joe's writing and style! This short story series has been enjoyable and oh so sexy. I nearly fell out over Janna's crazy self! She reminds me of myself in so many ways, and is the perfect type of character. These quick reads are great for that brief time alone. I am eagerly awaiting Holiday Hotel 3!

About Dormaine G.

AuthorDormaineG
I may be a nurse by profession but I'm an author by heart. I have been writing stories for many years, both in my head and on paper because I’ve always had a love for books ever since spending Saturdays at the library as a young child. Within a book, the mind can travel to worlds of the imagination and the beyond. I finally took the plunge and published my first novel last year, a young adult urban fantasy titled “Connor” and an adult horror short story titled “Madame Lilly, Voodoo Priestess”. Both are the first editions of many to come as I stay locked up in my office in Colorado spinning more tales.

Review: Special Delivery II by Perri Forrest

Title: Special Delivery II
By: Perri Forrest
Publisher: Chic Lioness Publishing

~My Review~

This story...Gavin Brooks! This author...Perri Forrest! I've come to be highly selective with my reading. I have my favorites, and only venture out when I feel that pull. In regards to Ms. Forrest's Special Delivery, I've been longing for the follow up to this "bad boy" story. What I got was on a level that surpassed my expectations.

After SD's ending and prelude to book 2, I thought that all was lost. I loved/still love the independence of a strong female character, namely Gavin's love interest Christina. And moreover, I was enthralled with Gavin. Though he might've initially come across as a player, that label was far from true. And as Ms. Forrest tactfully stripped down the walls of his life, my heart quickened as I rode the waves of emotional turmoil.

You see, it takes much more than meeting and falling in love to make a story romantic. What captures me is the nitty-gritty, the intricate parts we tend to block out, the emotions we keep at bay...the ones that must eventually surface in order for love to be considered real. And that is what makes a journey believable. This quality is what Perri Forrest consistently brings to her novels.

About the Author

Perri Forrest was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in sunny California. She describes herself as a trilogy---a Businesswoman who navigates through Corporate America flawlessly from Human Resources to Project Management, a Sociologist with a burning desire to save the world, and an Author who loves writing life into fiction.

When Perri suffered the devastating loss of her first cousin on her birthday, in 2006, with a few months left to complete her undergraduate studies, she barely made it through. A good friend not only suggested that she begin blogging to journal her moods and thoughts, that same friend gifted her with a newly designed blog platform, which birthed her first e-journal.

The blog opened a whole new world for Perri and served as a place she could express candidly, about life. When her blog was discovered and she began receiving compliments on not just her candor, but on her writing style as well, it fueled the fire, and thoughts of penning a novel resurfaced.

The lingering doubts of, "Who would even want to read your work?" were replaced with, "Worry about an audience later, and just do it."

And that she did.

Perri writes what she likes to call, "Multicultural Mayhem, laced with Sex, Cursing, Sass and the Occasional Happily Ever After."

Perri plans to perfect her craft and delve into other genres, down the line. With "Amazon bestselling author," added to her list of credits, Perri is in the writing game for the long haul and has no intentions of putting down her pen any time soon.

Be sure to check out her other reads on Amazon.

excerpt
“I’m not a heartbreaker,” Jezebel responded. The pain had become too much to hide or hold back, especially after hearing the heaviness of his words. She clutched her throat, trying in earnest to stop the cries. “You’re already breaking my heart. Each second I see you torn over your friendship with another man.” Aidan shifted from one leg to the other. His hand slipped into his pockets. He was vulnerable, Jezebel could see it in the way his head kept adjusting away from her. “I’m sorry, Aidan . . .” she mouthed, her words drowning out in the midst of 1:30 a.m. traffic and distant sounds of the performance. “Can we leave?” Aidan nodded. Jezebel wrapped her fingers around his, taking charge for once, feeling the need to let him know she cared. She had forgotten how to care a long time ago. She texted her friends from the car, afraid of Aidan disappearing if she went inside. They drove in silence while she planned for the night ahead. Aidan pulled into her driveway and got out to open her door. She noted that the car was still running. “You’re not coming in?” she asked when he took her hand. Jezebel touched the sides of his face, then the nape of his neck. She attempted to kiss him, but he remained distant. “Aidan,” she breathed into his face. “You’re too complicated for me, Jezebel.” “I thought you liked that about me,” she joked. Her nerves tingled; she felt scared, nervous. “Let’s go inside.” “I’m heading home,” Aidan mumbled. “Why?” Jezebel recognized her inconsistency, even how unfair she was being toward Aidan’s feelings. And still it was difficult to just allow him to leave. “Please, stay?” Tears poured down her face, and she pressed into his chest. He didn’t initially take her into his arms. She saw how hard he was fighting his emotions. about the author clip_image005Janice Ross was born in Guyana, South America and migrated to the USA in 1980. Although her citizenship certificate now reads the United States of America, she considers herself a citizen of the world. Sure she has not physically been around the world and back, but she’s travelled in her mind and dreams. Janice is an author. She enjoys writing about social issues and personal experiences. Janice’s debut release was entitled Damaged Girls. She uses the three books in that series to detail the effects of different forms of abuse, discussing issues that are known to be taboo. Her next release, Jumping Ship, is a dedication to her country of birth and an introductory novella to the Island Hopping Series. It is a colorful and emotional experience of life, love and family. As of present, she is also a contributor to a short story collection – Just Between Us, Inspiring Stories by Women. And lastly, Loving Nate, a novella about the realities of losing one’s self to love. Janice enjoys reading. And is drawn to stories with distinct characters that she can love or hate, characters she can form alliances with or characters that she can swear off and despise. She is also weak for a good cultural tale, preferably in the form of historical fiction. Janice loves to be taken off guard by clever language and settings.
